Teatro do Noroeste – Centro Dramático de Viana presented the programming of the Viana do Castelo Theatre Festival, which will take place between November 10th and 18th, at Teatro Municipal Sá de Miranda, in Viana do Castelo.
This year, the opening will be Samuel Beckett’s Waiting for Godot, directed by the Romanian Gábor Tompa, on the 10th, at 9pm, in the Main Hall. There will be a second performance on November 11th, also at 9pm. On the 12th, at 7pm, in the Sala Experimental, ACTA – The Theatre Company of the Algarve presents Pedras com Asas (Stones with Wings), directed by Luís Vicente, followed by A Comuna – Teatro de Pesquisa, with The House of Bernarda Alba, by Federico García Lorca, directed by Hugo Franco and João Mota, João Grosso and Carlos Paulo in the cast, on the 13th, at 4pm, in the Main Hall. From Spain, the Tranvía Teatro presents El Jardín de Valentín, directed by Crístina Yáñez, on November 15, at 7pm, in the Sala Experimental, and The Truth Has Three Mouths, a text by Hanneke Pauwe, directed by Graeme Pulleyn, takes the stage in the Main Hall on November 16, at 9pm, by the Cem Palcos collective.
The children’s program presents O Cão Que Vem de Tão-Tão Longe, by Cátia Terrinca from UMCOLETIVO, on November 13, at 11:00 am, opening the sessions that the festival will have for schools, also with the presentation of the 151st creation of the company A Maior Flor do Mundo, on November 16, at 9:30 am and 11:00 am, the day José Saramago, author of the original story, would be 100 years old. This show, directed by Isabel Barros, will also be presented to the general public on November 17th, at 6pm, in the Sala Experimental. On November 18, at 9 p.m., in the Main Hall, the festival culminates with Massa Mãe, by Sara Inês Gigante, an emerging artist from Viana do Castelo, about a skipjack girl scrutinizing part of her identity – the one embroidered with Minho hearts, in a reflection about the traditions and cultural conventions of Alto Minho.
Jointly organized by Teatro do Noroeste – Centro Dramático de Viana and the Viana do Castelo City Hall, this is a Festival that stands out for its accessibility, with audio description and stage recognition, simultaneous translation into Portuguese Sign Language and post-show talks in all performances.
