Main Room of the Municipal Theater Sá de Miranda

The centenary Main Room of the Teatro Municipal Sá de Miranda is the place of the performing arts par excellence: theater, music, dance. However, cinema and other events can also take place here, thanks to the horseshoe-shaped audience, with three orders of boxes and a total capacity of 378 seats.

Designed by José da Silva Sardinha, it is composed of an emblematic “Italian” nave that ends on a stage elegantly framed by a majestic proscenium arch. The ceiling of the room, painted by João Baptista do Rio, represents a sky in which the portraits of playwrights William Shakespeare, Gil Vicente, Molière, Pierre Corneille, Calderón de la Barca, Almeida Garrett, Friedrich Schiller, Vittorio Alfieri punctuate.
