Orlando

9 – 10 June 2022

Synopsis

We live in bizarre times. In a time that should be given to tolerance and acceptance, we have gone through a period of violence so often centered on discrimination. Yet the thinking that opposes power has shown resilience and fighting strength. Based on the text Orlando by Virginia Woolf and documentary material about the 2016 LGBT massacre in the city of Orlando (USA), Cláudia Lucas Chéu builds a narrative that blends Woolf’s fiction with documentary elements of said massacre. Thus, creating a new fiction from the junction of these two elements is to give life and voice to a new Orlando, in an attempt to reflect on the issues of gender and sexual orientation, and the waves of violence that they cause.
